June 2018 Gasoline Phaseout News

On June 1, Coltura released “Recharge Required,” a report documenting Washington public entities’ non-compliance with a law requiring that all public fleets run 100% on electricity or biofuels to the extent practicable. The white paper documents the failure of Washington cities, counties, universities, and state agencies to comply Washington Law, and has already spurred one state senator to call for hearings on the problem. Recharge Required was covered extensively in media outlets and newspapers in Washington and across the country, including this well-researched article in the Seattle Times. The report’s core recommendation, which calls for public entities to adopt clear “EV First” policies, was publicly seconded by 350.org, Drive Electric Washington, Stand.Earth, Plug In America, and Carbon Washington.

Less than one percent of the more than 30,000 vehicles owned by the state, cities, counties, and other public entities are electric vehicles (EVs), and only four of the 31 local governmental entities surveyed have plans for electrifying their fleet.
