October 2022 Gasoline Phaseout News
The LA Times reports: “Most voters favor phasing out gas-powered cars”
__________
California recently adopted a mandate to phase out new gasoline-powered cars and light trucks by 2035. The measure was heralded as “dramatic and historic,” and more than a dozen other states are likely to sign on (New York has already announced that would adopt the mandate 2035). Now, a new poll by the UC Berkeley Institute for Government Studies and co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Times reveals that a majority of voters favor phasing out gas-powered cars, with 55% of registered voters in favor of the mandate and 39% against. that
The poll mirrors the findings of a similar poll commissioned by Coltura last fall , which found that by a 55% to 35% margin, American voters support making all new cars sold in their state electric by 2030, a full five years. before the California mandate.
