As Gas Prices Surge, New Tool Helps Maine Drivers Make the Switch to Electric Vehicles
Today, Efficiency Maine, which administers the state’s energy efficiency programs, announced the launch of a new resource designed to streamline the complex EV car buying process for Maine drivers: the EV car shopping tool, presented by Coltura and powered by EVQ.
“There are tens of thousands of Mainers who would benefit from the switch to an EV,” said Coltura’s policy director Rob Sargent. “Right now, Mainers could save more than 8 cents per mile on fuel and maintenance. And folks who drive 25,000 miles in a year could save more than $2,000.”

“As gas prices are climbing, electric vehicles are cheaper to fuel and require less maintenance than conventional cars and trucks,” said Michael Stoddard, executive director of Efficiency Maine. “At the same time, the leases on hundreds of thousands of EVs are expiring, pushing that inventory into the used vehicle market. This is going to be a great year to buy an EV. By introducing new tools that help Mainers shop for EVs, we hope to simplify the customer experience and encourage them to make the switch. We encourage Maine drivers to check out our online EV Shopping Tool to find the EV that’s right for them.”
“We’re thrilled to see Maine be the first state to use this tool and we’re excited to have played a role in making it possible,” said Coltura’s Rob Sargent.
The tool can be accessed on Efficiency Maine’s website.
