Washington State Passes Pathbreaking Public Fleet Electrification Measure
___________
The Washington State Legislature allocated $450,000 for the first full-scale analysis of electrifying city, county, state, and public transit vehicles by as early as 2025 as part of the transportation budget passed last week, ESHB 1160 (page 8, line 4). This study responds to Coltura’s 2018 analysis which found that state and local governments are in violation of Washington’s existing law requiring fleet vehicles be zero emissions to the extent practicable. Coltura participated in drafting the original bill with sponsor Rep. Nicole Macri and later worked with Rep. Jake Fey to get it into the transportation budget.
