Gasoline Phaseout News – March 2025
Attracting New EV Buyers with Targeted Education & Marketing

Despite continued growth in EV adoption, significant marketing and education gaps leave most Americans unaware of EV benefits and EV sales lagging far behind their potential.
Traditional automakers remain indifferent to promoting EV advantages like fuel cost savings because gasoline vehicles still dominate their sales. High-end electric brands primarily target affluent buyers, while dealers and car websites focus on immediate sales rather than education.
Yet for many drivers who burn large amounts of gasoline, switching to an EV would be more affordable on a monthly basis than what they currently spend on their gas car. Not only would the switch result in much-needed household savings, but also it would suit their daily needs.
Effective EV education requires targeting these drivers and using customized strategies that resonate throughout the consumer journey: identifying gasoline vehicle pain points such as high fueling and maintenance costs, addressing EV concerns and misperceptions, and guiding users to suitable EV models using state-of-the-art digital tools and data. Coltura is building on its track record of data-driven approaches to meet this need. Stay tuned!
Switching to an EV: How long does it take to save $22,000?
Did you know? A person driving 600 miles a week and getting 24 miles per gallon in a gas car could switch to an EV and save a present value of $21,948 in just five years (assuming a 7% discount rate and 3% inflation). At today’s gas prices (around $3.25/gallon), that’s equivalent to saving $300 per month. If you’re burning that much gasoline—about 25 gallons a week—switching to an EV could put $22,000 in your pocket.

Data Insight of the Month: The Case for Preserving EV Tax Credits in Conservative Congressional Districts
Coltura’s data is strengthening the fight to save crucial EV tax credits. Analysis of one example, Georgia’s Congressional District 1, shows drivers there would save an average of $1,314 annually by switching to EVs, with total district savings reaching $658 million yearly. Most importantly, our research reveals that lower-income, high-mileage drivers—who spend on average 24% of their income on gasoline—benefit most from these incentives. By highlighting these economic impacts across key Republican-held districts, we’re demonstrating to lawmakers that eliminating EV tax credits would disproportionately harm working families.

Gas Station of the Month: Irving Gas Station Castleton, VT

HAZMAT workers were called out when a change of pressure in an underground storage tank caused it to spill hundreds of gallons of gasoline onto the street at a gas station in Castleton, VT. A faulty vapor valve is the suspected cause of the spill. Roads were closed for several hours.
Culture Corner: Drink Your Coffee Fast — Five Minute Chargeups Are Coming

The quick refueling time of ICE vehicles has been a key advantage relative to EVs. That advantage is fading. BYD’s new EV battery and charging system will provide nearly 300 miles of charge in 5 minutes, a small fraction of the 30-50 minutes that today’s EVs take to fully charge. Mercedes-Benz’s CLA coupe is close behind, promising a 200 mile charge in 10 minutes.
