COLTURA CALLS ON CONGRESS TO SEND PRESIDENT BIDEN CLEAN CARS 2030 LEGISLATION
January 20, 2021 – During his campaign, President Joe Biden pledged to accelerate our country’s transition away from fossil fuels through investments in clean energy, transportation electrification and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Coltura is thrilled to welcome a president who grasps the urgency of our climate, understands that gasoline is the biggest source of carbon emissions, and is prepared to take bold, decisive action to cut US fossil fuel use.
Our country’s peers and allies – countries including the UK, Norway, Netherlands, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland and Israel – have announced plans to phase out the sale of new gas cars over the next 10 years. The United States can re-establish its role as a world leader, create American jobs and keep our auto industry globally competitive by becoming the largest country committed to transitioning to 100% zero-emissions vehicles sales by 2030.
With recent progressive victories in Georgia, Congress is now in a position to take legislative action to address the climate emergency. We call on Congress to put legislation on President Biden’s desk ending the sale of new gas-powered cars in the United States by 2030.
As the U.S. rejoins the Paris climate agreement after four years of destructive climate policies, we cannot afford to go slow. We must put the pedal to the metal. Let’s move beyond gasoline and eliminate our biggest source of carbon emissions.
