Oregon EV Rebate 2026: Clean Vehicle & Charge Ahead Rebates

Oregon EV rebates are open Aug. 25-Nov. 4, 2026. Compare the $2,000 Standard Rebate and up to $7,500 Charge Ahead Rebate, including income limits, used EV rules and how to apply.

Updated September 6, 2026

Oregon has one of the most valuable state EV rebate programs available in 2026, but this year there is an unusually important catch: the vehicle must be purchased or leased between August 25 and November 4, 2026.

Qualifying Oregon residents can receive up to $7,500 toward a new battery-electric vehicle through the income-qualified Charge Ahead Rebate. Oregon also offers a Standard Rebate of up to $2,000 for eligible new EVs without an income requirement.

The two rebates are different paths through the Oregon Clean Vehicle Rebate Program. You cannot receive both rebates for the same vehicle.

Below, we break down which rebate may apply to you, how much you could receive, the income and vehicle rules, used EV rebates, deadlines, and what to do before you buy.

Funding and program rules can change. Always confirm current eligibility and funding with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality before purchasing or leasing a vehicle.

Oregon EV Rebate 2026 Key Points

  • 2026 purchase or lease window: August 25-November 4, 2026.
  • Standard Rebate: $2,000 for an eligible new battery-electric vehicle and $1,500 for an eligible new plug-in hybrid with a battery of at least 10 kWh.
  • Charge Ahead Rebate: $7,500 for an eligible new battery-electric vehicle or $5,000 for an eligible new plug-in hybrid.
  • Used EV Charge Ahead Rebate: up to $4,000 for an eligible used battery-electric vehicle and up to $2,500 for an eligible used plug-in hybrid, subject to vehicle-price rules.
  • Income: Charge Ahead is for qualifying households with income below 400% of the federal poverty guideline. The Standard Rebate has no income requirement.
  • Vehicle price: eligible vehicles must have an original base MSRP under $50,000 and meet the program's other vehicle requirements.
  • No stacking: you can receive either the Standard Rebate or the Charge Ahead Rebate for a vehicle, not both.
  • Lifetime limit: individual applicants are limited to two Oregon Clean Vehicle Rebate Program rebates over the lifetime of the program.
  • Registration and leases: rebated vehicles generally must remain registered in Oregon for at least 24 months, and an original lease must be for at least 24 months.
  • How to claim it: eligible shoppers can receive a rebate at the point of sale through a participating dealer or apply after the transaction. Charge Ahead shoppers need an approved prequalification voucher to receive that rebate at the dealership.

Oregon EV Rebate Amounts At A Glance

Rebate Vehicle 2026 Amount Income Requirement?
Standard Rebate New battery-electric vehicle, battery 10 kWh+ $2,000 No
Standard Rebate New plug-in hybrid, battery 10 kWh+ $1,500 No
Charge Ahead New battery-electric vehicle $7,500 Yes
Charge Ahead New plug-in hybrid $5,000 Yes
Charge Ahead Used battery-electric vehicle $2,500-$4,000 Yes
Charge Ahead Used plug-in hybrid Up to $2,500 Yes

There is also a smaller Standard Rebate for qualifying new BEVs and PHEVs with batteries under 10 kWh, as well as a rebate for eligible zero-emission motorcycles. Check Oregon's current eligible-vehicle list before relying on any amount.

Standard Rebate Vs. Charge Ahead: Which One Should You Use?

For most individual EV shoppers, the first question is income eligibility.

If your household meets Oregon's Charge Ahead income requirement, Charge Ahead is generally the more valuable option. A qualifying new battery EV can receive $7,500 instead of the $2,000 Standard Rebate.

If your household does not meet the Charge Ahead income requirement, you may still qualify for the Standard Rebate when purchasing or leasing an eligible new vehicle.

Do not add the two numbers together. Oregon explicitly requires applicants to choose either the Standard Rebate or the Charge Ahead Rebate.

Oregon Charge Ahead Rebate

The Charge Ahead Rebate is Oregon's income-qualified EV incentive. It is especially noteworthy because it covers both new and used electric vehicles.

For 2026, qualifying shoppers can receive:

  • $7,500 for an eligible new battery-electric vehicle.
  • $5,000 for an eligible new plug-in hybrid.
  • Up to $4,000 for an eligible used battery-electric vehicle.
  • Up to $2,500 for an eligible used plug-in hybrid.

This can make a meaningful difference when shopping for a lower-priced EV. Rather than looking only at the sticker price, compare the vehicle's final price after the rebate with the gasoline vehicle you would otherwise buy.

You can also use Coltura's EV cost-savings calculator to compare longer-term gasoline and electricity costs.

What Is The Oregon Charge Ahead Income Limit?

Oregon's Charge Ahead Rebate is for qualifying households with income below 400% of the federal poverty guideline. The actual dollar threshold depends on household size.

For reference, 400% of the 2026 federal poverty guideline for Oregon is:

Household Size 400% Of 2026 Federal Poverty Guideline
1 $63,840
2 $86,560
3 $109,280
4 $132,000
5 $154,720
6 $177,440
7 $200,160
8 $222,880

Use these figures as a screening guide rather than a guarantee of eligibility. Oregon DEQ determines eligibility under the program's household and income-verification rules.

Oregon defines a household as an individual living alone, a family with or without children, or a group of people living together as one economic unit. For Charge Ahead, the state looks at adjusted gross annual household income.

For a post-purchase or post-lease application, the program administrator generally verifies adjusted gross income using Line 11 of IRS Form 1040. For a Charge Ahead prequalification voucher, income is verified through Oregon tax information. If the tax transcript for the year of the vehicle transaction is not yet available, the program may request the prior year's transcript.

If you want the Charge Ahead rebate at the dealership, complete the state's prequalification process before shopping. Once approved, you receive a voucher that can be used by a participating dealer to apply the rebate at the point of sale.

Oregon Used EV Rebate: How Much Can You Get?

Used EV buyers should pay particular attention to Charge Ahead. Oregon's Standard Rebate is for new vehicles, but the income-qualified Charge Ahead program covers eligible used battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids.

For an eligible used battery-electric vehicle, the rebate depends on the vehicle's purchase price:

  • $12,000 or more: $4,000 rebate.
  • $8,333-$11,999: rebate equal to 30% of the vehicle purchase price.
  • Under $8,333: $2,500 rebate, although the rebate cannot exceed the vehicle's purchase price.

An eligible used plug-in hybrid can receive $2,500, or no more than the vehicle purchase price.

Used vehicles also have to meet Oregon's other eligibility rules. The vehicle must be purchased or leased through a qualifying dealer or original equipment manufacturer; private-party purchases do not qualify. Among other requirements, eligible vehicles must meet the program's MSRP, range, title and registration rules.

Which Electric Cars Qualify For The Oregon EV Rebate?

Do not assume that every electric car under $50,000 qualifies. Oregon maintains an official eligible-vehicle list and can update it.

Among the key rules, the vehicle must meet the program's technology, price and transaction requirements. Charge Ahead can include eligible new and used BEVs and PHEVs, while the Standard Rebate is generally focused on qualifying new vehicles.

Does Tesla Qualify For The Oregon EV Rebate?

Potentially, yes. Oregon's program accommodates qualifying vehicles purchased directly from an original equipment manufacturer as well as qualifying dealer transactions. The important questions are whether your exact vehicle appears on the current eligible list and whether the transaction meets the program rules.

For direct-to-consumer vehicle purchases, Oregon uses the date of first registration when applying its purchase-date rules. That makes the 2026 program window particularly important.

How To Get The Oregon EV Rebate

Option 1: Get The Rebate At The Dealership

Participating Oregon dealerships can apply an eligible rebate directly to the purchase or lease price.

For Charge Ahead, you need to complete income prequalification first and bring the approved voucher to a participating dealership.

Find a participating Oregon dealership

Option 2: Apply After You Buy Or Lease

If you do not receive the rebate at the point of sale, Oregon allows eligible applicants to apply through the program portal after the transaction.

Applications generally must be submitted within six months of the purchase or lease date. You will need documentation such as proof of Oregon residency, your purchase or lease agreement and vehicle registration.

The most important deadline comes earlier: the vehicle itself must be purchased or leased while the 2026 program is open.

When Does The Oregon EV Rebate End In 2026?

The announced 2026 purchase-and-lease period runs from August 25 through November 4, 2026.

Oregon DEQ says demand is strong and expects the available 2026 funding to be fully subscribed. If applications exceed available funding during the open period, approved applicants may be placed on a waiting list and paid after DEQ receives its next funding allotment.

That does not extend the purchase deadline. Vehicles purchased or leased before August 25 or after November 4, 2026 are not eligible for the 2026 rebate and will not be placed on the waitlist.

If an EV is already on your shopping list, first:

  1. Check whether the vehicle is eligible.
  2. Determine whether you qualify for Charge Ahead.
  3. Complete Charge Ahead prequalification if you want to use the rebate at the dealership.
  4. Check current program funding.
  5. Confirm the dealer and transaction qualify before signing.

Is The Oregon EV Rebate A Tax Credit?

No. Although many people search for an Oregon EV tax credit, the Oregon Clean Vehicle Rebate Program provides a rebate, not a state income-tax credit.

That distinction is useful because an eligible rebate can be applied at participating dealerships or claimed through the rebate process rather than waiting to claim a tax credit on a future state return.

What Other Oregon EV Incentives Should You Check?

After checking the state vehicle rebate, look at your electric utility. Depending on where you live, utilities may offer EV charging rates, charger programs or other incentives.

See Coltura's EV incentives guide.

An Incentive Helps — But Look At The Whole Cost Of The EV

A rebate can dramatically reduce the upfront price, but it should not be the only reason to choose an electric car.

Compare the EV that fits your driving needs with the gasoline vehicle you would realistically buy. Look at purchase price after incentives, home-charging access, electricity and gasoline costs, insurance and expected maintenance.

There are now EVs across a much wider range of prices, sizes and driving ranges than just a few years ago. Coltura's guide to the least expensive electric cars is a useful place to start if price is your main concern.

Conclusion: Take the next step

For an Oregon household that qualifies for Charge Ahead, the $7,500 new-BEV rebate is substantial enough to change the economics of an EV purchase. Even shoppers who do not qualify for Charge Ahead may be able to receive the Standard Rebate.

The key is timing. In 2026, confirm your vehicle, income eligibility, dealer and funding before you complete the transaction.
